How to clean a leather backpack

A leather backpack is always a smart investment. We have stated in the past several reasons to buy a leather backpack. But as leather is a natural material, keeping your backpack in a good shape takes some maintenance!

If you have already invested in a good leather backpack, maintaining and cleaning it correctly will prevent stains and damages from several materials and environment conditions. But how do you safely clean and maintain your leather backpacks?

We prepared an easy and practical guide for you. Let's dive into it!

Before beginning: Always follow manufacturer instructions! As well, it is highly recommended to know the type of leather used in your backpack. The next guide was created only for genuine leather.

1. Use a toothbrush to remove dirt

You can use a toothbrush or any other soft haired brush to brush off dirt from places where dirt tends to accumulate. You can do it every weekend to keep your leather backpacks always clean!

2. Use a leather cleaners

You can use leather cleaners made for leather shoes to clean your leather backpacks. Before applying the cleaner, you should always remove any excess dirt from the surface.

3. Use a leather conditioner

Using a leather conditioner will leave the leather on your backpack hydrated and supple. It will also create a protection layer against dirt and staining.

4. Dry your backpack

The final step is to wait at least 24 hours to get your backpack completely dried. Don’t ever expose your backpack to the sun, let it get dried in a safe place with indirect sunlight.
