With so many options of luggage in the market, it is not always easy to know which option is the best for us. And in the great quest for the perfect luggage, there is a classical and timeless battle between suitcases and duffel bags.
Obviously both options are great and each one has its pros and contras. There are many things to consider when making a choice, but the answer always depends on what kind of trip you’re taking in the first place.
Here are the differences between suitcases and duffel bags and some recommendations to help you decide which type is ideal for your next trip:
Security: In general duffel bags tend to be more vulnerable to theft than suitcases. Commonly, duffel bags include external pockets which can bring some problems along the way. Suitcases on the other hand, are always built with security in mind. No external pockets and with extra security capacity.
Capacity: Suitcases are not as flexible as duffel bags. Duffel bags come in all shapes and sizes and its shape make it easy to accommodate more irregular types of items. Some duffel bags include more organizational options inside the bag to store your stuff in.
Transportation: The transportation factor depends on the goal of your trip. If you’re planning for a long trip on Europe, transportation is irrelevant because you need to pack stuff for a long time. But if you’re planning to escape only for a weekend, ease of transportation is essential. In brief, suitcases are not easy to transport while duffel bags are a big winner here.

Regardless of the pros and cons of duffel bags and suitcases, the answer depends on what you like and what you need. Casual travelers tend to opt for duffel bags because are easier to pack, and move around, while formal travelers who carry large amounts of equipment tend to opt for suitcases
